The East Passyunk Food Trail: A Street-by-Street Guide

East Passyunk Avenue is the best restaurant corridor in Philadelphia. Here's how to walk it properly.

East Passyunk Avenue runs diagonally through South Philadelphia from Broad Street to the Italian Market, and the stretch from Tasker to Morris is the corridor — a roughly 10-minute walk with more interesting food per block than almost anywhere in the city.

How to Walk It

Start near Broad and walk south. The avenue bends because it follows the path of an old creek, which is why the sightlines keep changing and every block feels different. The fountain at Passyunk and Mifflin is the landmark — if you're lost, walk to the fountain.

What to Eat

The range runs from old-school Italian-American red-gravy joints to contemporary BYO tasting menus, often on the same block.

  • Brunch is strong on weekends — arrive before 10am or expect waits.
  • Cheesesteaks: the famous corner at 9th and Passyunk is a 5-minute detour, and it's worth making.
  • BYOB density is high — there's a bottle shop one block off the avenue at almost every point.
  • Coffee: multiple roasters along the corridor; the independents reward exploration.

Finding It on PlateWalk

The East Passyunk Trail maps the corridor with check-in stops. Complete it for a neighborhood badge and PlatePoints. Most people take two or three visits to finish — that's the right pace.

Getting There

Broad Street Line to Tasker-Morris, then walk east on Morris. Street parking lives on the side streets and is easier on weekdays.
